Report: Jurgen Klopp to create role for Steven Gerrard at Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp reportedly wants to create a role for Steven Gerrard at Anfield.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is reportedly open to creating a role for Steven Gerrard at the club.

The Premier League club's former captain, who spent 17 years of his career at Anfield after coming through the youth ranks, joined MLS side Los Angeles Galaxy on an 18-month deal in the summer.

The 35-year-old midfielder has returned to Merseyside, where he is expected to stay until January 15 before moving back to the United States to begin the new MLS season.

During that time, Gerrard has been invited to train at Melwood to keep up his fitness over the festive period, but there are no plans from either party to seal a loan deal.

According to The Independent, the club intend to eventually offer Gerrard a role away from the pitch, but Klopp will watch the footballer in training and should he be impressed, he is open to re-considering playing the midfielder if a loan can be agreed.

However, it is not yet known whether Gerrard would want to play for his boyhood club again.
