Liverpool have ended their pursuit of Porto winger Christian Atsu and will put faith in youngsters instead, according to a report.
The Ghanaian international had been heavily linked with a move to Anfield, but the Liverpool Echo claims that manager Brendan Rodgers will now turn to the current crop of promising youngsters – Raheem Sterling and Jordon Ibe.
Sterling, 18, impressed in the early part of last season, but has been out of action since March due to a thigh injury.
Despite interest from clubs looking to take the England international on loan, it is understood that Rodgers is keen for Sterling to play a key role in this season.
Ibe is also expected to play a larger role in the coming campaign having made his senior debut against Queens Park Rangers in May.
