A last-minute Cedric Bakambu goal gives Sochaux all three points against Lyon in Ligue 1 this evening.

Sochaux scored a last-minute winner at Lyon this evening to all but end their title ambitions.

A strong defensive performance from the away side helped during the second half, as they grabbed a 2-1 victory on the break with almost the last kick of the game.

After a cagey opening to the contest, the home side settled into their rhythm and started to pass the ball well with Clement Grenier at the heart of things.

They rarely threatened the Sochaux goal, though, and it was the away side who came closest midway through the first half when Giovanni Sio's effort was tipped onto the post.

Grenier had a decent penalty shout turned down just before the break and the teams went in at 0-0.

Five minutes into the second period the away side took the lead. Some slack marking at a corner allowed Sio to jump highest and power his header past Remy Vercoutre.

The hosts responded by quickening the pace of their attacks. One in particular released Alexandre Lacazette, who found space in the final third only to smash his effort against the crossbar.

A minute later they got their goal. Lcazette was fouled in the area and this time the referee pointed to the spot. Bafetimbi Gomis stepped up and squeezed the ball past the goalkeeper and into the bottom corner to equalise.

Lyon went up another gear after that, peppering the away goal with shots and crosses from all angles. Lisandro Lopez in particular was guilty of missing a good chance.

Just as a disappointing draw looked on the cards things got even worse for Lyon, as a devastating counterattack saw Sochaux snatch all three points.

Sio ran clear and played in his partner Cedric Bakambu, who fired the ball home, ensuring a big win for Sochaux.
