Yaya Toure "delighted" by Manchester City return

Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure expresses his delight at being back playing following his match-winning display against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure has expressed his delight at being back in the side following his match-winning display against Crystal Palace this afternoon.

Toure had been frozen out by manager Pep Guardiola after derogatory comments made by his agent, but issued an apology earlier this month and was rewarded with his first league appearance of the season at Selhurst Park.

The Ivorian responded by scoring late in either half to fire City joint top of the Premier League table, and the midfielder is hopeful that the team could be on course for a repeat of their 2013-14 title-winning campaign.

"We knew sometimes we need to fight to win games and this was tough. Crystal Palace are in trouble and they needed a performance in front of their fans. I am really happy with the lads. For me, to be honest, I just want to help the team. City are always involved in the title race and we will keep it going. Maybe my prediction is it will be like 2014. It will go to the end, but we have quality players who can score at any moment," he told reporters.

"I have been lucky. Today was very tough. We know what we have to do to win this league, sometimes you have to fight. I was delighted to play today, it was difficult for me. I am very happy to be playing football, my teammates are very important to me.

"They have always been brilliant with me, always supportive. I always want to be there to help them. I am professional, I always want to improve my game. I was prepared mentally and I knew that one day my manager would need me. You must always stay professional."

Toure played the full 90 minutes in what was his first Premier League appearance since April 23.
