New Manchester City signing Douglas Luiz joins Girona on loan

Manchester City confirm that new signing Douglas Luiz will spend the 2017-18 campaign on loan at newly-promoted La Liga side Girona.

Manchester City have announced that new signing Douglas Luiz will spend the 2017-18 season on loan at newly-promoted La Liga side Girona.

The 19-year-old joined City from Vasco da Gama in a deal worth a reported £10.2m earlier this summer, but he will have to wait for his debut at the club having been shipped out on loan.

City are hopeful that the move will accelerate Luiz's development, giving him more opportunities to experience first-team football in Europe next season.

"Girona will give Douglas the perfect opportunity to develop at the top level of the European game. We're all excited about seeing him develop in La Liga, and send our best wishes to him for the coming season," City director of football Txiki Begiristain told the club's official website.

Luiz could make his competitive debut for Girona at home to Atletico Madrid on the first day of the new La Liga season.
