Manchester City will reportedly move for Bayern Munich hitman Mario Gomez if they fail in their summer bid for Edinson Cavani.
Napoli striker Cavani, who has netted 29 times in 36 club appearances this season, is apparently manager Roberto Mancini's number one transfer target.
However, Real Madrid and Chelsea are also thought to be keen on the Uruguayan, who is understood to be valued at around £40m by his Serie A employers.
Mancini is therefore making contingency plans in case Cavani does not end up at Eastlands and has identified Germany international Gomez as an alternative, according to the Daily Mail.
Gomez has found himself second choice to Croatian striker Mario Mandzukic at the Allianz Arena this campaign and has admitted that he is unhappy with his current role at Bayern.
