How every Premier League season would have finished after gameweek 29: 2013-14

Given the current uncertainty over the resumption of the Premier League, Sports Mole takes a look at how the 2013-14 season would have ended after gameweek 29.

With the coronavirus pandemic having brought a halt to the Premier League campaign, Liverpool have been left waiting to find out whether they will be provided with the opportunity to end their 30-year wait for a league title.

However, many of the 20 clubs in England's top flight face an anxious wait over their own positions, whether that be to do with European qualification or potential relegation to the Championship.

Of course, the current global crisis has caught everyone off guard, resulting in frequent meetings being held between the powers-that-be at their respective organisations. However, it naturally raises the question of what would have happened in years gone by had the Premier League been ended after gameweek 29.

While Manchester City ultimately prevailed by a two-point margin over Liverpool, who many feel squandered the chance to win their first Premier League crown, it was a different story at the beginning of March.

However, despite sitting seven points adrift of leaders Chelsea, City had three games in hand, and Manuel Pellegrini's team would drop just seven points from their last 12 outings.

Although Liverpool picked up 25 points from their remaining 10 fixtures, it was only enough to finish the season in second position, two points ahead of the Blues.

Arsenal maintained their spot in the top four to secure the final Champions League place, but Manchester United were the big losers in the race for the Europa League, eventually missing out to Everton.

The Toffees, in seventh and with a game in hand after gameweek 29, recorded 24 points from their last 11 games, in comparison to United who registered 16 points from one match fewer.

The major change at the opposite end of the standings involved Sunderland, who made full use of their three games in hand courtesy of their progression to the EFL Cup final.

Despite the Black Cats sitting in 19th in March, four wins and two draws from their last dozen encounters was enough to finish as high as 14th place.

Norwich City replaced them in the bottom three, dropping from 15th to 18th due to a return of just four points from nine games.

Cardiff City and Fulham joined the Canaries in the Championship, although the former would finish bottom after a disappointing conclusion.
