Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag is unsure when injured midfielder Scott McTominay will be able to return to action.

Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag has admitted that he is unsure when Scott McTominay will be able to return to action.

The Scotland international has missed Man United's last four matches in all competitions through injury, including both legs of the Europa League quarter-final with Sevilla, and the FA Cup semi-final with Brighton & Hove Albion.

There were initially suggestions that the midfielder would be available for the clash with Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday night, but he has again been ruled out of action.

Speaking on Wednesday, Ten Hag said that McTominay would be out for "a little bit longer" than Alejandro Garnacho, who has now returned to the training field.

"Scott, we have to wait a little bit longer, I fear. But I am sure they are all motivated to be back as soon as possible as we play a lot of 'finals', huge games and, in the end, we know what is going on then," Ten Hag told MUTV ahead of the clash with Spurs.

McTominay has again been a regular for the Red Devils during the 2022-23 campaign, featuring on 35 occasions in all competitions, contributing three goals and one assist in the process.

The Scot has found it difficult to secure regular starts this term, though, which has led to speculation surrounding his future ahead of the summer window.

Newcastle United are believed to have shown an interest in the midfielder during the January transfer window, while West Ham United are said to be admirers of his talents.

McTominay is again set to miss out against Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday, while he faces a battle to return for the league game against Brighton on May 4.

Man United have a number of injury absentees at this late stage of the season, with Lisandro Martinez and Donny van de Beek both out for the rest of the campaign, while Raphael Varane is facing a battle to return before the FA Cup final at the start of June.

Tom Heaton is also still out alongside Garnacho, who will not be involved against Spurs but is now close to making his return to the first team.

Bruno Fernandes had emerged as a major doubt for the clash against Tottenham due to an ankle injury that he picked up in the FA Cup semi-final against Brighton.

However, the Portuguese has made the trip down to London alongside his teammates, suggesting that he will be involved at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Man United are currently fourth in the Premier League table, five points clear of fifth-placed Aston Villa, who have played three games more than the 20-time English champions.
