Sir Alex Ferguson admits that he put pressure on referees to give Manchester United 'Fergie time'.

Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted that he tried to put referees under pressure to give his side more added time during matches.

The Red Devils are often associated with what has become known as 'Fergie time', which refers to United sometimes receiving a prolonged period of stoppage time in order to search for a winning goal if the result wasn't quite going their way.

The Scotsman, who will stand down after 26 years in charge after this weekend, has insisted that he will give new manager David Moyes a decent watch for when he takes over.

"He'll get one, don't worry, we've got good sponsors," the Daily Mail quotes Ferguson as saying. "The fourth official [against Swansea] on Sunday showed me the board and it said eight minutes. I said, 'think again!'.

"That's been a part of it too, the pressure you try and put on referees. But I save mind games for opponents."

Ferguson accumulated 38 trophies for the Red Devils during his career.
