Wayne Rooney: 'Paul Pogba has unfinished business at Manchester United'

Wayne Rooney says that Paul Pogba has "unfinished business" at Manchester United, who are reportedly closing in on a world-record move for the Juventus midfielder.

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has claimed that the club would be making a "very big statement" if they signed Paul Pogba from Juventus in the coming weeks.

The France international is rumoured to be the subject of a world-record move to Old Trafford, where he left four years ago.

Pogba, who made just three Premier League appearances for United, joined Juve in 2012 after former manager Sir Alex Ferguson gave the green light for a free transfer.

Now, it has been reported that the Red Devils, who are under the guidance of new boss Jose Mourinho, have agreed a €110m (£92.7m) fee, which would make the 23-year-old the most expensive footballer in history, eclipsing the £85m tag that Real Madrid paid for Gareth Bale in 2013.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Rooney said: "I hope [Pogba] is going to want to return to United and prove he's a top-class player.

"If he is excited to play for us, we'll be excited to have him back. I'm sure he'll feel there is unfinished business, and it would be a very big statement by the club if they can make it happen."

Meanwhile, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has described the hefty fee as "completely crazy".
