Manchester United reportedly attempted to sign Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schulz on loan before the summer transfer window closed on October 5.
The Red Devils were strongly linked with Dortmund attacker Jadon Sancho over the summer but were unable to come to an agreement with the Bundesliga giants.
According to ESPN, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side made a €1m (£900,000) loan offer for Schulz on deadline day and were prepared to pay the 27-year-old's salary for the remainder of the campaign.
BVB ultimately rejected the move, though, and the report claims that Lucien Favre's team were left 'baffled' by United's negotiating tactics.
Schulz joined Dortmund from Hoffenheim in May 2019 but has largely found it difficult to make his mark at Signal Iduna Park, featuring on just 20 occasions in all competitions.
The Germany international has also only played six minutes of Bundesliga football this season.
