Ole Gunnar Solskjaer blocked five players from leaving Manchester United this summer, according to a report.

The Red Devils spent big money in the transfer window, bringing in Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo for a combined fee of around £135m.

The arrivals have left a number of fringe players unlikely to get much gametime at Old Trafford this season, and many were linked with moves away from the club.

However, according to The Mirror, Solskjaer denied several players the opportunity to leave, as he is keen to have a large squad in order to cope with the busy fixture list.

Those players include forwards Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial, who were linked with Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain respectively in the last few days of the window.

Meanwhile, Donny van de Beek was interested in joining Everton on loan for the season, but Solskjaer also denied the midfielder a move.

Finally, the Man United boss wanted to ensure he had enough options at full-back meaning Diogo Dalot's loan move to Borussia Dortmund did not materialise, while youngster Anthony Elanga was also refused a temporary switch to gain first-team football.
