Steve Harper has admitted that Newcastle United were fortunate during their 2-2 draw with Everton on Monday evening.
The goalkeeper was beaten by a Victor Anichebe shot in the second half but the officials refused to award a goal to the hosts at Goodison Park, a decision that Harper believes Newcastle took full advantage of.
"It was behind me. I genuinely thought I'd saved it but apparently it was over the line," Harper told Sky Sports News. "You're taught never to give it up and I didn't, and we went and scored at the other end so I'm pleased.
"I got a hand on it and got a bit of luck - you need a bit of that, I didn't have much luck with the two goals so what goes around comes around."
Everton manager David Moyes criticised the officials following the dramatic contest.
