Swiss international winger Tranquillo Barnetta has reportedly agreed to joined MLS club Philadelphia Union on a free transfer.
The 30-year-old played 22 times for Schalke 04 last season and trained with the Union squad before making his decision, according to Sports Illustrated.
Barnetta will be signed under the MLS's new targeted allocation money mechanism, which allows teams to pay down a player's salary so that he does not count as a designated player to the salary budget.
The winger reportedly had interest from a number of clubs in Europe, including Augsburg and Leicester City, but has decided to make the move to the US.
A seasoned international, Barnetta has appeared at two World Cups with Switzerland and made three appearances with Schalke in last season's Champions League.
