Republic of Ireland fans awarded for good behaviour

UEFA confirm that the Republic of Ireland supporters will receive an award for their conduct at Euro 2012.

Republic of Ireland supporters will receive an award from UEFA for their good behaviour at this summer's Euro 2012.

In a tourament that has seen numerous unsavoury incidents between supporters, the Irish fans have been widely praised for their conduct in Poland and Ukraine.

It hasn't gone unnoticed by UEFA president Michel Platini, who will travel to Ireland later this month to present the award to the Irish Football Association.

"Everyone was very impressed by the Ireland fans," said UEFA's general secretary Gianni Infantino.

"The team's results were mitigated by the fans. UEFA president Michel Platini will go to Ireland to give the award."

The award will be dedicated to 21-year-old Ireland fan James Nolan, who died during the tournament.
