Southampton boss Ronald Koeman: 'We were outstanding against Everton'

Southampton boss Ronald Koeman is quick to praise his players following their 3-0 win against Everton, describing their performance as St Mary's as "outstanding".

Southampton boss Ronald Koeman has heaped praise on his players following their resounding 3-0 win against Everton in the Premier League.

The Dutchman described his team's display as "outstanding" as the Saints put a run of five straight defeats behind them with victory at St Mary's Stadium.

"The key today was to win the game. We were outstanding," he told BBC Sport. "As a team, the work was unbelievable and you need that to win games. It is not always about quality. The Players showed how you have to fight to win games.

"If you show more spirit you are invariably more lucky. After the goal we had more belief and more confidence after losing four or five games. Hopefully we got some confidence back.

On his teenage debutant, Koeman added: "The energy Harrison Reed put in was one of the keys to win the game."

The result leaves Southampton in fifth place in the table, while Everton reside in the bottom half.
