Tottenham Hotspur's Jan Vertonghen keeps eyes on fourth place

Jan Vertonghen says that Tottenham Hotspur are keeping a close eye on fourth place as they try to qualify for the Champions League.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen retains hope of qualifying for the Champions League this season.

The North London outfit are currently four points behind fourth-placed Manchester City, who have two games in hand.

While Liverpool have been Tottenham's main challengers for a Champions League spot this season, the Reds have stretched their lead to six points, putting them second in the standings.

"You don't only have to watch Liverpool," The Independent quotes Vertonghen as saying. "I think there are other teams who can drop down so we are just watching fourth place, no matter who we catch."

Despite Vertonghen's hopes, the defender believes that Spurs "will have to improve, especially as we're playing better sides this month."

Spurs travel to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea this Saturday.
