Walker-Peters ready to fill in for Tottenham team-mate Danny Rose

Walker-Peters has not played for Spurs this season.

Tottenham’s Kyle Walker-Peters insists he is ready replace Danny Rose if his team-mate is sidelined.

The defender is yet to make an appearance for Spurs this season after a breakthrough campaign last year.

Rose pulled out of England’s Nations League games with Croatia and Spain with a groin injury.

Walker-Peters played in England Under-21s’ 7-0 romp against Andorra on Thursday, which booked their spot at Euro 2019, and is now eager to make an impact at Spurs.

He said: “Hopefully it’s not too bad for Dan. If the manager at Tottenham needs me to play on the left then I’m ready to do a good job.

“The gaffer knows what he’s doing.  I have faith in what he has planned for me and when he gives me my opportunities I have to continue to take them.

“Poch (Mauricio Pochettino) is good.  He spoke to me at the beginning of the season which is good. He makes it quite clear that if you want to go and have a word with him, feel free to and question him.”

Spurs team-mate Jan Vertonghen has also given the 21-year-old, who won the Under-20 World Cup last year, words of encouragement after nine appearances last season.

“Jan sent me a great message, saying after I’d signed my contract and all my hard work throughout the season, it showed in games,” he said.

“I guess it was because of the season I’d had.  I didn’t play often but when I did actually get my opportunity I did quite well.”

The Young Lions have now reached seven straight tournaments and are unbeaten in 34 qualification games ahead of Tuesday’s final Group Four match in Scotland.

Under boss Aidy Boothroyd they lost in the semi-final on penalties to Germany at Euro 2017.

Boothroyd spent the summer with the senior side as they reached the last four in Russia and is eager to put into practice the lessons he learned.

He said: “Well, I’ve asked for their budget but I don’t think I’ll be  getting it! But there are loads of little things and minute details. I did a little presentation on it last week to our staff asking what can we learn from Repino when we go to Italy (Euro 2019)

“The biggest things were getting the right training ground and making sure the flow of the hotel was right – making sure the rooms are placed right and when players come in we are all together.

“All the departments worked really well together as one.”
