Aston Villa reportedly face competition from Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Juventus midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur.
While the Uruguay international has been a first-team regular this season, the 24-year-old is one of a number of midfield players who may depart the Italian giants before the end of January.
On Friday, it was claimed that Villa had failed with their latest bid for the player, although an improved offer may come at some stage over the coming days.
According to Sky Italia, Spurs are monitoring the situation and are seemingly keen to secure a loan deal for Bentancur.
As it stands, Juventus are unlikely to consider such a proposal unless it includes an obligation to buy for at least £21m later in the year.
Bentancur has two-and-a-half years remaining on his contract at the Turin-based club.
