Sunderland boss Gus Poyet has promised supporters that he will remain "calm" during the January transfer window.
The Black Cats are currently four points adrift of safety at the bottom of the Premier League table heading into the second half of the season.
"It's not about just bringing in players for the sake of bringing in players," Sky Sports News quotes the Uruguayan as saying. "We'll stay calm.
"That's the most difficult part in January. In the summer, you've got time normally so you can check plenty of things and really go deeper into situations.
"Saying that, we work, I know what I want and what we're looking for and we will see what we can get."
Sunderland return to action on Tuesday night when they host Manchester United in the first leg of the League Cup semi-finals.
