Swansea City boss Garry Monk has revealed that negotiations are underway with defender Ashley Williams over prolonging his stay at the Liberty Stadium.
With Williams's existing contract scheduled to expire next summer, speculation of a move away from South Wales has been mooted for the 29-year-old.
However, Monk, who saw his own future at the club clarified earlier this week after being handed a three-year deal, says that retaining the services of his skipper is very much on the agenda.
"He is a player I've sat down with since the announcement and there are a couple of others I have to sit down with," he told the South Wales Evening Post.
"I'll give the players my view, how we feel about them as a club and we'll go from there. I've talked to Ashley many times and he's someone I think is an important part of what we've done here."
The 29-year-old has made 34 Premier League appearances for the Swans this season.
