Villarreal striker Giuseppe Rossi will play no part in this summer's European Championships with Italy after suffering a long-term knee injury.
The 25-year-old is expected to undergo surgery on his anterior cruciate ligament after aggravating a previous injury in his right knee, which was initially picked up last October against Real Madrid.
It is unclear how long the striker will be sidelined for, but the news will serve as a blow to the frontman, who netted 32 goals for Villarreal last season.
The news may also affect any potential transfers for Rossi, who has been linked with a summer switch to Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur.
