Michail Antonio admits he would "embrace the competition" should West Ham United sign a new striker in January.

The 31-year-old is currently the only recognised centre-forward at the London Stadium, with head coach David Moyes keen to bolster his options in the final third.

Antonio, who has scored nine goals in 22 appearances across all competitions this season, claims he would not shy away from the challenge of keeping his place in the starting lineup should the Hammers recruit a new number nine.

Speaking to the Evening Standard, Antonio said: "I'm a person where I want a challenge, I want someone to be there pushing me and make sure I am doing the right things.

"The time I went nine games without scoring a goal, maybe someone could have stepped in and given me that little push so that I could hit the back of the net.

"I am not a person that would shy away from a challenge. I would definitely embrace someone coming in, I'd embrace the competition."

West Ham have been linked with several strikers across Europe in recent months, including Bayer Leverkusen's Patrik Schick, Lille's Jonathan David and Besiktas's Cyle Larin.
