Wigan Athletic defender Maynor Figueroa's appeal against the red card he received in Monday's defeat to Newcastle United has been rejected by the Football Association.
The 29-year-old gave away a first-half penalty during the clash at St James' Park after hauling Papiss Cisse to the ground and also received a red card for the challenge.
Wigan appealed against the decision on Tuesday, but the rejection means that the defender will now miss the weekend match with Queens Park Rangers.
Latics boss Roberto Martinez told reporters: "We are disappointed, clearly, because we felt we put forward an excellent case. But we will draw a line under the incident and continue our preparations for Saturday."
Figueroa joined Wigan from Olimpia in 2008.
