Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Rajiv van La Parra has apologised to the club's fans for making an "insensitive" comment on Instagram.
The 24-year-old Dutchman, who moved to Molineux in 2014, provoked ire on Monday when he updated his Instagram bio to read: "One week they love you. Next week they hate you. Both weeks I got paid."
Now Van La Parra has issued an apology claiming that the remark was a "joke" with friends that had been misinterpreted.
"I want to apologise to all the Wolves fans and everyone at the club that found my post on Instagram offensive," he said.
"Personally, it was not about the club it was a personal joke that I was having with my friends. Despite what I get paid, we are all humans and make mistakes in our everyday life and place of work.
"Without the fans we would not be able to play football so without you guys it's not possible."
Van La Parra was part of the Wolves side that lost 3-0 at Championship rivals Brentford last night.
