World number six Samantha Stosur progressed through to the semi-finals of the French Open this afternoon courtesy of a 6-4 6-1 win over Dominika Cibulkova.
Both players held their two opening service games as the match got off the an even start.
However, Australian Stosur claimed a decisive break in the fifth game to open up a 3-2 advantage.
Cibulkova responded with a break of her own as Stosur prepared to serve for the set to reduce the arrears to 5-3. She then had the chance to break again and level scores at five games apiece, but Stosur held off the challenge to record a 6-4 success.
It was the first set that the Slovakian had dropped all tournament.
She managed to hold her opening service game in the second set. However, that was about has good as it got for Cibulkova, who lost the next six games in succession to Stosur, who booked her place in the semi-finals at Roland Garros for a third time.
Stosur will take on either Angelique Kerber or Sara Errani for a place in the final.
