World number two Rafael Nadal believes that players need to have more say in how many tournaments they play each year.

Rafael Nadal has claimed that tennis players want more freedom to choose which tournaments they play in.

The 25-year-old is part of a group of players, including Andy Murray, who are set to meet to discuss the current ATP Tour schedule.

The ten-time Grand Slam champion is concerned that players do not get enough say in how many tournaments they play.

"About the schedule, we would like to have more freedom to chose tournaments based on our own conditions," said Nadal.

"There are too many mandatory tournaments on the schedule now. If we get more freedom, it will be better to keep fresh all year long.

"It's a pity to miss out on top stars in Shanghai. I hope they will consider more of the players arranging the schedule."

Andy Murray has previously played down talks of a player strike in protest at the current tour schedule.

Both Nadal and Murray are in action at this week's Shanghai Masters, although Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer are absent through injury.
