Kyle Edmund loses out in Montevideo second round

British number three Kyle Edmund fails to make it seven successive wins on clay after losing in the second round of the Montevideo Challenger.

Kyle Edmund has bowed out at the second-round stage of the Montevideo Challenger after losing in straight sets to Christian Garin.

The British number three had been looking for his seventh successive win on clay after claiming the Buenos Aires Challenger last weekend, but he failed to extend his recent run as the 19-year-old Chilean controlled large parts of the match.

Edmund got back into the first set at 4-4 before the match was delayed due to rain, but upon their return, Garin broke twice to run out a 6-4 6-4 winner.

However, Edmund's form has helped put him in pole position for a starting role in Great Britain's Davis Cup side against Belgium next week, despite having never played in the competition.
