How Arsenal could line up against Manchester City

Sports Mole looks at how Arsenal could line up for Tuesday's EFL Cup quarter-final against Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium.

Under-fire Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta will be hoping for a favour from his former club on Tuesday when he welcomes Manchester City to the Emirates Stadium in the EFL Cup quarter-finals.

The Gunners did not get one from another of his former clubs as they slumped to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Everton at the weekend, extending their winless run in the Premier League to seven games.

Progress to the semi-finals of the EFL Cup would inject some much-needed Christmas cheer into the Arsenal camp, but they are facing a team which has dominated this competition in recent years.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Arteta could line his side up for the contest.

Arsenal will once again be without captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for this match due to a calf injury.

The Gabon international, who was the hero the last time these two sides met in a cup competition, sat out at the weekend and Arteta revealed after that match that he could miss up to two weeks with the problem.

The exact severity of the injury is yet to be confirmed, but he will not be able to play any part on Tuesday night.

Aubameyang joins Thomas Partey on the injury list, while Granit Xhaka is still suspended as he serves the final game in his three-match ban following his red card against Burnley.

The Gunners do have Gabriel Magalhaes back from a suspension of his own, though, and he could come straight back into the back three.

Other fringe players such as Sead Kolasinac, Shkodran Mustafi and Joe Willock, who has shone in the Europa League, will be hopeful of a start, while Alexandre Lacazette and Hector Bellerin could also come back in after sitting out at the weekend.

Fit-again Gabriel Martinelli made his return off the bench at the weekend and could also be involved in some capacity.
