Paul Merson is predicting his former side Arsenal to win their North London derby against Tottenham Hotspur "comfortably" after their positive start to the season.

Paul Merson has predicted his former side Arsenal to win their North London derby against Tottenham Hotspur "comfortably".

The Gunners won their first two Premier League games of the season against Newcastle United and Burnley before losing to Liverpool at Anfield.

Meanwhile, Spurs snatched a late win against Aston Villa in their opening fixture before drawing with Manchester City and losing at home to Newcastle.

Merson feels that, despite the loss at Anfield, Arsenal's early-season form has been impressive and makes them favourites over their rivals, who have looked disjointed so far.

"I didn't give Arsenal much of a chance at Liverpool, I expected them to get beat and the game went exactly how I thought it would - they had some chances, looked good in parts of the game and then succumbed to the inevitable," Merson told Sky Sports News.

"But it wasn't all bad for Unai Emery's side. A couple of weeks ago I'd have looked at Sunday's North London derby and said Arsenal would be happy with a draw, but after their positive start to the season, I expect them to win comfortably now."

Arsenal have finished below Spurs in each of the last three seasons.
