Arsenal are supposedly hoping to strike a deal for Benfica left-back Nuno Tavares.
The Gunners recently tied Kieran Tierney down to a new long-term deal, but Sead Kolasinac's expected summer exit would leave them short of options on the left-hand side of defence.
Cedric Soares and Granit Xhaka were often forced to deputise at left-back during Tierney's time on the sidelines, meaning that Mikel Arteta is expected to bolster his ranks in that position before the new season.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal have already touched base with Tavares's entourage over a move, and the defender 'dreams' of testing himself in the Premier League.
The former Sporting Lisbon youth product ended the 2020-21 season with three assists from 25 appearances in all competitions, and he came off the bench as a late substitute in Benfica's 3-2 Europa League last-32 second leg defeat against Arsenal.
Tavares's existing Benfica deal does not expire until 2024, and Arsenal will supposedly have to fork out £12.8m to secure his signature.
