Luis Suarez nets double as Barcelona beat Inter Milan

Luis Suarez scores twice as Barcelona come from behind to beat Inter Milan 2-1 in Wednesday night's Champions League clash at Camp Nou.

Luis Suarez scored twice in the second half as Barcelona came from behind to beat Inter Milan 2-1 in Wednesday night's Champions League clash at Camp Nou.

Lautaro Martinez's third-minute strike had seen Antonio Conte's side take a surprise lead in Catalonia, but Suarez's spectacular volley levelled the scores before the Uruguay international netted an 84th-minute winner.

The victory has seen Barca join Borussia Dortmund on four points in Group F, while Inter have just one point to show from their two matches in the section despite a perfect start to the 2019-20 Serie A season.

Antoine Griezmann had the game's first attempt in the second minute, but the attacker's strike from distance never threatened to trouble Samir Handanovic between the Inter sticks.

Almost immediately after the Griezmann effort, Inter took the lead. There was certainly a slice of luck for the Italians in the build-up as the ball fell kindly for Martinez, but the Argentine still had plenty to do as he held off pressure from Clement Lenglet before finding the bottom corner with a clever finish.

Griezmann headed a Sergi Roberto cross over the Inter goal in the 15th minute before Sergio Busquets missed the target with a powerful drive in the period that followed as Barca looked for a response.

Ernesto Valverde's side were threatening to level the scores as the half continued to progress - Griezmann carrying the biggest threat in the final third as he continued to drift off the left.

Inter were always dangerous on the counter-attack, though, and only the offside flag prevented another uncomfortable moment for Marc-Andre ter Stegen as Martinez broke clear once again.

Handanovic had to make a smart save to keep out a curler from Lionel Messi in the 25th minute, before Antonio Candreva saw a goal chalked off down the other end for offside after firing into the bottom corner.

Inter had a golden chance to score a second just past the half-hour mark when the ball fell kindly for Nicolo Barella inside the Barca box, but the midfielder saw his goal-bound effort brilliantly blocked by Nelson Semedo.

Ter Stegen then had to make a world-class save to keep out a header from Martinez with the striker afforded all sorts of space inside the home team's penalty box.

Inter again came close in the 40th minute when Stefano Sensi just missed the crossbar at the end of a brilliant team move which had seen Conte's side cut Barca apart in the middle of the park.

The final chance of the first period also arrived for the visitors as Sensi picked out Alexis Sanchez with a brilliant cross, only for the Chile international to head wide under pressure from Busquets.

As it transpired, Barca had 64% of the possession in the first half, but the Spanish champions were fortunate to only be one goal behind at the break due to Inter's work in the final third of the field.

Arturo Vidal for Busquets was the home side's first change of the match in the 53rd minute with Valverde looking for more of a driving force in the middle of the park.

Vidal had a goal-bound shot blocked moments after entering as Barca looked to quicken the pace, but Inter were still fairly comfortable in a defensive position as they continued to hold firm.

That all changed in the 58th minute, however, when Suarez scored a spectacular equaliser, finding the bottom corner with a stunning volley after Vidal had lifted a pass towards his fellow South American.

Griezmann might have sent the home side 2-1 ahead in the 62nd minute after breaking into the Inter box, but the France international could only hit the side-netting with a powerful drive.

Ousmane Dembele replaced Griezmann in the 66th minute, while Conte introduced Roberto Gagliardini for Sanchez, who had struggled to influence the match at the start of the second period.

Dembele struck just over the Inter crossbar in the 68th minute as the attacker, who has struggled with injury this season, looked to make his mark against the Serie A leaders.

Both Sanchez and Conte were booked in the latter stages for dissent despite not being on the field, and it got worse for Inter in the 84th minute when Suarez netted his second of the match.

The assist came from Messi as the Argentine worked space in the final third before feeding Suarez, who touched the ball past the defender before finding the back of the net with an emphatic finish to secure all three points for the Spanish champions.

Barca's next group match is away to Sparta Prague on October 23, while Inter will be looking for their first win of the section when they welcome a dangerous Dortmund to Milan on the same night.
