David Villa hails Atletico Madrid resilience

Atletico Madrid forward David Villa praises his teammates following Saturday's La Liga title triumph.

Atletico Madrid forward David Villa has claimed that Saturday's 1-1 draw against Barcelona – which secured the La Liga title – was a "reflection" of the club's season.

The capital outfit lost key attackers Diego Costa and Arda Turan to injury in the first period, before falling a goal down courtesy of a strike from Alexis Sanchez.

However, Atletico responded in the second period, with Diego Godin's header enough to secure a share of the spoils and their first league success since 1996.

"This match has been a reflection of our season," he told reporters after the game.

"The lads showed tremendous character and poise to see it through."

Villa joined Atletico from Barcelona last summer.
