French league backs Paris Saint-Germain over Neymar deal

The French league lends its support to Paris Saint-Germain in their bid to bring Neymar to the club despite La Liga attempting to block the deal.

The French league (LFP) has said that it is "amazed" by La Liga's actions in the proposed deal to take Neymar from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain.

PSG are understood to have triggered Neymar's £198.6m release clause up front and in full, but the Spanish league have attempted to block the switch by rejecting the Ligue 1 outfit's bid.

However, the LFP has now thrown its weight behind PSG and insists that it will assist last season's runners-up in helping to get the deal over the line.

"The LFP is amazed and does not understand the refusal of the Liga to simply accept the payment of the liberatory clause of the player Neymar," read a statement.

"The LFP asks La Liga to abide by the FIFA rules and its responsibilities. The LFP supports Paris Saint-Germain and wishes Neymar to join the Ligue 1 championship.

"The legal services of the LFP are in support and at the disposal of Paris Saint-Germain so that the Neymar contract is approved as soon as possible."

The proposed transfer would smash the previous record, set by Paul Pogba in his £89m switch from Juventus to Manchester United last summer.
