Gerard Pique insists that he is not concerned by a clause in Lionel Messi's contract which enables him to leave Barcelona for free at the end of the season.

Gerard Pique has emphasised that he is not concerned by a clause in Lionel Messi's contract which enables him to leave Barcelona for free next summer.

It was recently revealed that Messi has a clause in his existing contract, which runs until 2021, that gives him the freedom to walk away from Camp Nou at the end of any given season.

The Catalan giants have been reportedly preparing talks which would see the club offer Messi a 'lifetime contract'.

Speaking on the subject of Messi's release clause, the Barcelona captain told Cadena Ser: "I already knew Messi is able to leave for free at the end of each season.

"But we all know the commitment Leo has to Barca and it doesn't worry me at all. He's earned the right to be able to choose what he does with his future after everything he's given the club."

The 32-year-old, who made his first-team debut in 2004, has scored over 600 goals for the Spanish giants in all competitions.

Messi has previously spoken of how he would probably not sign for another European club, making it likely that he will either finish his career at Barcelona or back in Argentina.
