Thomas Frank: I’ll do everything to turn round Brentford’s form

The Bees have won just once in 10 matches.

Thomas Frank insists he is still the man to reverse Brentford’s fortunes after his side lost 2-0 at Hull.

With just one win from 10 games, Frank has had a rotten time since he replaced Dean Smith in mid-October.

And the dissenting voices surrounding his future at Griffin Park became more vocal after Fraizer Campbell scored the two decisive goals in the first half.

Frank said: “We are worried – if you only win one in 10, that’s clear. We need to look at ourselves, but you can see the effort they put in.

“You can’t ensure anything in the world, but I am 100 per cent sure that me, the players and the coaching staff will do everything we can to turn it around. One win will do massively.”

The scoreline might have been a touch misleading as Brentford controlled possession for much of the game, most significantly in the second half.

But the defensive frailties which have undermined Frank’s reign again resurfaced when Campbell cashed in on poor marking with goals in the 12th and 21st minutes.

And although Brentford fleetingly looked like getting back into the game after the restart, they could not find a way through.

Frank said: “We need to minimise the defensive mistakes and errors.

“We started good – very well, actually – and dominated the game and created chances. But I think that (the two goals) shows why we are suffering a little bit – we got punished extremely hard in those situations.

“We definitely made mistakes but the small margins didn’t drop to our side.

“We created opportunities but we didn’t play quick enough, and with the sharpness of that quality when we are on a high.”

Hull, by contrast, are going along nicely and are now above Brentford in the Sky Bet Championship.

And having lost just once in eight games, they have also given themselves room in which to manoeuvre away from the relegation zone.

Manager Nigel Adkins said: “We knew it was going to be a challenging game, but we’ve kept the forward momentum going.

“That was a very good, professional performance. Brentford are an excellent side who pass the ball around really well.

“Yes, we defended deep, but we defended really well. And if we tried to play expansive it might have been a different scoreline.

“We have showed there’s different ways to win a game of football.”

Adkins added: “We were very professional in our manner to see the game out in the second half.

“Marshy (goalkeeper David Marshall) has had one shot to save in the whole game. We defended well, with the whole squad contributing and Fraizer Campbell in form.

“We got the three points and that’s the important aspect. We look forward to the next game.”
