Brighton & Hove Albion full-back Gaetan Bong will miss the remainder of the year after rupturing his left thigh tendon.
The 27-year-old, who picked up the injury during last Saturday's draw with Preston North End, underwent surgery on Wednesday afternoon.
It has now been confirmed by the Seagulls that Bong faces up to 12 weeks out as he undergoes a lengthy rehabilitation period, with his return pencilled in for the end of January.
"Losing Gaetan is a big blow for us, as he has been excellent and an important part of our success, and it is a huge blow for him personally," boss Chris Hughton told the club's official website.
"However, he is a really strong character and I've no doubt he'll come through that rehabilitation period and be back to full fitness for us in the new year."
Brighton signed Cameroon international Bong in the summer following his Wigan Athletic exit.
