Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo has praised his side's start to the new Premier League season after they beat Wigan Athletic 2-0 this afternoon.
The Blues found themselves two up within seven minutes as goals from Branislav Ivanovic and Frank Lampard kickstarted their season in style.
They failed to add to their tally, but Di Matteo believes that it was the best start the Champions League holders could have wished for.
"We had a very bright start and sometimes you don't score the goals so early on but it was perfect today that we managed to score the two goals early on. I think that that settled a lot of nerves," he told Sky Sports News.
"We prepared for the game and the team and we were looking for a good start. It doesn't always happen but I think today they responded very well."
Di Matteo's men will be looking to build on that result when they face Reading in their next league fixture.
