Roy Hodgson confident of Premier League safety after Leicester City rout

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson says that he is "very proud" of his players for all but guaranteeing their place in next season's Premier League.

Roy Hodgson has said that he believes Crystal Palace are now safe from the Premier League drop following Saturday's 5-0 win against Leicester City.

The Eagles moved up to 11th place in the table, six points above 18th-placed Southampton - who have a game in hand to play - thanks to their comfortable victory at Selhurst Park.

Palace boss Hodgson, who took over a winless team in September, is happy that his side have now accumulated enough points heading into the final fortnight of the campaign.

"We made certain that the quality of the performance led to goals. That was very satisfying," he told reporters post-match. "With 38 points and a good goal difference I think we will be okay. It's dangerous to some extent because miracles do happen.

"You'd need to be Billy Beane to work out all the mathematical possibilities. I always thought if we got to 36 points with a good goal difference, we'd have a good chance of staying up.

"I am very proud of the work that has been done at this club since September. I want to share that with my staff and the players."

Palace face Stoke City and West Bromwich Albion in their final two matches.
