Jack Rodwell could be close to an Everton comeback after playing 65 minutes in the reserves.

Everton midfielder Jack Rodwell is close to making a return to Premier League action after competing in a Toffees reserve fixture.

The 20-year-old has been a rare figure in the Everton lineup since November after suffering a recurring hamstring problem.

Despite three months on the sidelines, Rodwell could boost the Merseyside club after he played 65 minutes with the reserves this week.

The playmaker's injuries have put his England senior career on hold, but Rodwell has been open about his desire to feature in the European Championships this summer.
