Half-Time Report: Luke Hyam goal puts Ipswich Town ahead

Luke Hyam scores inside the opening 20 minutes to give Ipswich Town a 1-0 lead over Wigan Athletic in the Championship.

An early goal from Luke Hyam has given Ipswich Town a 1-0 lead over Wigan Athletic at half time at the DW Stadium in the Championship this evening.

Dean Gerken came under pressure in the Ipswich goal early on as Andy Delort attempted to head in from a cross, but he nodded the ball high of the crossbar.

Wigan wanted a penalty just over 10 minutes into the tie when Emmerson Boyce appeared to be brought down by Christophe Berra, but the referee was not interested in the home side's appeal.

The visitors started to see more of the ball as the half progressed, with Scott Carson having to make a save to deny Luke Murphy with a drive from distance.

Ipswich broke the deadlock just moments later, as Tyrone Mings created a chance for Luke Hyam, leaving his teammate with a simple tap-in from the centre of the box.

Daryl Murphy tried to set up a second for Mick McCarthy's side, but his cross in towards Conor Sammon was cleared before it could reach the striker.
