Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin speaks on his disappointment at their 1-1 draw with Leeds United on Friday.

Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin expressed his disappointment at the Magpies' 1-1 draw with Leeds United in the Premier League on Friday.

Raphinha gave the visitors an early lead, but Saint-Maximin drew his side level on the stroke of half time, and neither side were able to find a winner in the second half.

That saw Newcastle move onto two points from their opening five Premier League outings, leaving them in the relegation zone at this stage.

Speaking to reporters after the game, the goalscorer said: "To be honest for me, it's two [points] lost because we gave everything to win this game, We had a lot of chances, we were brave and every player was playing really well but it's difficult to start the game one-nil down, we did everything to come back, we scored, and we had a lot of chances to make it 2-1, so we are very disappointed tonight."

Amidst growing criticism of manager Steve Bruce and the squad from sections of the St. James' Park fanbase, the French winger defended his teammates, saying: "The lads work really hard in training. You can see on the pitch, every player is running a lot to try and get the win - and I'm disappointed not to get it."

The Magpies return to Premier League action on Saturday with a trip to Watford, who sit on six points from their first five league games.
