Brendan Rodgers: 'I want Premier League title'

Brendan Rodgers wants Liverpool to win the Premier League title.

New Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has admitted that he wants to win the Premier League at his new club.

The former Swansea City boss took over at the Reds on Friday, having signed a contract with the Merseyside outfit after agreeing a compensation package with his old employers. Rodgers has wasted little time in declaring his long-term aim for the side and insists that Liverpool should be doing better.

"I think [the aim is] just trying to keep making forward steps. The team finished eighth last season but I would say they were better than that - and that's no disrespect to anyone," Rodgers told talkSPORT.

"It's just about taking steps forward. Liverpool as a club should be in that Champions League but it's not just that. The aim for Liverpool can't just be fourth. It has to be number one but that's a process and that is going to take just a wee bit of time to do that.

"That's the overall aim and obviously we'll work towards that on a daily basis and a yearly basis."

Liverpool last won the English top-flight division 22 years ago.
