Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has said that Loic Remy looked the "perfect type" of player to fit into Brendan Rodgers's squad.
The Queens Park Rangers striker flew out to America to undergo a medical with the club last week but the proposed move collapsed, reportedly because of concerns by the club's doctors.
The 36-year-old told The Anfield Wrap: "It's gutting for everyone, I was thinking when the deal fell through that it's not very often Liverpool get a great player for a good price.
"It's not something that's Liverpool's forte really, getting value for money in the transfer market. So to get a player with goals in the Premier League, who looked like he could play with [Daniel] Sturridge and can do a job out wide, would have been great.
"He looked the perfect type, and now it's left Liverpool in a difficult situation."
QPR manager Harry Redknapp said that he was surprised to learn that Remy had not passed his medical.
