Paul Clement plays down suggestions that Swansea City are planning a swoop for Liverpool striker Dominic Solanke.

Paul Clement has played down suggestions that Swansea City are planning a swoop for Liverpool striker Dominic Solanke.

Jurgen Klopp's side acquired the 20-year-old this summer upon the expiry of his Chelsea contract, but he has found it difficult to carve out a place in a squad that also includes the likes of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Premier League top scorer Mohamed Salah.

Earlier this week Clement was linked with making a move for Solanke, having spent time with him while coaching at Stamford Bridge, but he has admitted that such a coup would be 'unrealistic'.

"He is not a name we have highlighted because we see him as a player that's doing really well at his own club," he told reporters.

"But when you see our goal-scoring record and our ability to create chances we have to strengthen in forward positions.

"How many players that will be it is difficult to say, but one or two players in the forward positions would be a big help for us.

"We are trying to identify them but it has to be players who are realistic targets to bring here."

Following seven appearances from the bench Solanke was handed his first league start in the 3-0 win over Stoke City in midweek.
