Manchester City are reportedly set to rival Liverpool in the race to sign Barcelona's midfield starlet Gavi.
The 17-year-old is enjoying his breakthrough season at Camp Nou and has established himself as a first-team regular under head coach Xavi, making 22 appearances across all competitions.
Gavi's current contract with the Catalan giants is set to expire in June 2023 and includes a €50.2m (£42m) release clause, which is believed to be attracting interest from several top European clubs.
According to the Daily Mail, Man City are keeping a close eye on the midfielder and they are prepared to rival Liverpool for his signature.
The report adds that Pep Guardiola is an admirer of Gavi and he is keen to recruit the Spain international, however, the teenager is currently 'hesitant' about the prospect of a big-money move at such an early stage in his career.
Gavi is understood to see his future at Camp Nou and is excited by the new project under Xavi as well as playing alongside several other young talents at Barca, including Ansu Fati, Pedri and January signing Ferran Torres.
However, due to Barcelona's current financial situation, they could be forced into selling the youngster in one of the next two transfer windows.
