Samir Nasri: 'Manchester City will benefit from Barcelona defeat'

Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri believes that his side are better equipped to challenge for next season's Champions League trophy after losing to Barcelona in midweek.

Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri has insisted that Wednesday's defeat to Barcelona will benefit his side in next year's competition.

Manuel Pellegrini's team bowed out of the competition at the last-16 stage after losing 2-1 at Camp Nou, but Nasri believes that the Premier League outfit can take positives from competing against the Catalan giants.

The 26-year-old told The Independent: "I think that we played a good game. I think that we did everything that we could.

"We can have regrets about the first leg - it is in the first leg that we lost it - but here we did everything.

"I think that this defeat is going to be good for us in the future. This is where you get experience and get much stronger as a team and a group. Next year, our target is to be up there with the best."

Their appearance in the second round marked City's best run in Europe's premier competition.
