Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane has stated that Luke Shaw was unlucky to break his leg after being tackled by PSV Eindhoven defender Hector Moreno.
The 20-year-old left-back was stretchered off in United's Champions League defeat to the Dutch side after sustaining a double fracture in the challenge with the PSV man.
Keane has suggested that it was not a foul because Moreno made a fair and genuine attempt to win the ball.
"I thought it was a brilliant challenge,' Keane told ITV Sport. "I love the physical side of the game.
"You can always tell by player reactions and none of the United lads at the time - and players are best judges because they are nearest the tackle - didn't react over the top thinking it was a bad challenge, obviously at the end of it.
"And when players are travelling that speed, defending like that, injuries are going to happen. I'm surprised there are not more like it. It was more of an accident at the end with his trailing foot."
Shaw is expected to be sidelined for at least six months after he underwent surgery in a hospital in Eindhoven on Tuesday night.
