Carlo Ancelotti slams Manchester United, Arsenal owners

Incoming Bayern Munich manager Carlo Ancelotti accuses the owners of Manchester United and Arsenal of being more focused on profits than on-field success.

Incoming Bayern Munich manager Carlo Ancelotti has accused the owners of Manchester United and Arsenal of being more focused on making a profit than steering the club to success on the pitch.

United have been owned by the Glazer family since 2005, while Stan Kroenke has held the majority shareholding in Arsenal for the past five years.

Both owners are based in America and take a more hands-on approach with the NFL teams that they also own, and Ancelotti believes that they are harming their clubs.

"It is unbelievable what happened to Manchester United and Arsenal. Both managers, [Arsene] Wenger and [Alex] Ferguson, have done fantastic jobs for all the years they've been there," he told talkSPORT.

"I think the difference now is that the owners of Arsenal and Manchester United are removed [from the club] in America. They are not so passionate. There are two important aspects in football – the result and the financial aspects. I think Arsenal and Manchester United are more focused on the financial aspects.

"One year you can win and reach the Champions League but [for their owners] the important thing is the financial situation. For other clubs, like AC Milan and Real Madrid, the most important thing is the result."

Kroenke today increased his stake in Arsenal to a majority shareholding of 67.05%.
