Jose Mourinho 'unhappy with Stamford Bridge return date'

Jose Mourinho is to challenge the decision to stage Manchester United's fixture against Chelsea on October 23 - 72 hours after a potentially key Europa League match.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has asked the Premier League to change the date of his return to former club Chelsea, according to a report.

The Portuguese was sacked by the Blues last December before taking over from Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford following a six-month break from the game.

Mourinho is said to be unhappy that his new side's fixture against Chelsea is to take place on October 23, which is less than 72 hours after a Europa League group game.

It is claimed by The Times that the 53-year-old has pinpointed his Stamford Bridge return as the most important match on the calendar, and is unsure why the Red Devils' fixture cannot be played a day earlier on the Saturday.

Chelsea will have a full week to prepare for the game, while United could be handed a further blow should they be handed an away fixture in the Europa League, thus reducing the time between fixtures.
